It will depend on the candidate’s experience and capabilities. If the candidate lacks clinical and cell therapy experience, they will start with entry-level tasks such as competitive data analysis, disease and product research, and PPT preparation. If the candidate is experienced, they can take on key responsibilities, including protocol writing and patient screening.

Project phase - Which phase(s) of clinical trials (Phase I/II/III)? IIT/phase1/phase2 (for cell therapy, most trials will be focused on IIT/Phase1)
Therapeutic indication - What are the specific indications? Solid tumor/hematology/auto immune/rare disease (Cell therapy currently spans a wide range of fields, and cross-disease work is high likely. Candidates should be prepared to accept these assignments and challenges)
Target/Mechanism - What drug target are the projects focusing on except CGT? (only cell therapy)

Involvement in Preclinical-to-Clinical Transition/IND Stage: Will the Clinical Scientist be involved in the preclinical to clinical transition or IND stage? If so, what would their role be?
Yes, for scientists, it will be an important role from preclinical to clinical transition or IND stage. They will need to conduct target research, potential indications research, and perform competitive landscape analysis. They will also be expected to help prepare a series of internal governance slides for the trial.

The cell therapy clinical scientist is an important member of the Project Team, working under the supervision of TA head or senior clinical scientist, supporting activities related to the medical scientific aspects of the compound and its development. The accountabilities are broad, however, the core accountabilities are the medical & scientific support for the development and implementation of cell therapy AstraZeneca sponsored IIT or/and IND study, including clinical science support for initiating clinical trial(s), supporting clinical data review, interpretation of the study results and supporting final recommendations to senior management.
