Accounting Specialist Apprentice
Position Overview
The Accounting Specialist Apprentice – Bookkeeper/Reconciliations Apprenticeship is designed to provide hands-on accounting experience while developing foundational to intermediate skills in bookkeeping, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and payment processing. Apprentices will support transaction processing across multiple areas within Allstate, ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely financial operations while participating in structured learning, coaching, and development opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Under guidance and increasing levels of independence, the apprentice will:
Process and review financial transactions from multiple areas within Allstate to ensure accurate and compliant accounting treatment
Learn and apply compliance requirements related to accounting and payment processes
Perform account reconciliations by balancing general ledger and subsidiary accounts and researching outstanding items
Assist with researching discrepancies and communicating with internal teams and external partners to resolve issues
Support invoice and payment processing, including researching and resolving invoice exceptions
Research, investigate, and process payment data to support timely payments to employees and suppliers
Maintain and update financial and tax-related data by collaborating with internal and external customers
Learn to identify, understand, and resolve common payment and reconciliation exceptions
Provide customer support by accurately entering and maintaining detailed financial data across multiple systems
Develop working knowledge of multiple accounting processes to respond to inquiries and support issue resolution
Manage assigned workload while adapting to changing priorities and deadlines
Assist with journal entries, corrections, and basic account adjustments under supervision
Support preparation of reports, reconciliations, and special projects as assigned
Follow accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to maintain data integrity and compliance
Participate in training, mentorship, and educational opportunities to build accounting knowledge and technical skills
Collaborate with team members and cross functional partners on daily work and process improvement initiatives
Skills and Knowledge You Will Develop
General ledger accounting fundamentals
Account and bank reconciliations
Debit and credit application
Invoice and payment processing
SAP and other financial systems exposure
Excel skills for reconciliation and data analysis
Understanding of accounting controls and compliance standards
Professional communication and problem-solving skills
Qualifications
Required:
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
Currently enrolled in an Associate’s degree program at a community college or trade school
Basic Excel experience
Interest in accounting, finance, or bookkeeping as a career path
Basic knowledge of accounting principles (through coursework or training)
Willingness to learn SAP, general ledger processes, reconciliations, and Excel
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively in a team environment
Preferred (Not Required):
Prior bookkeeping, accounting coursework, or internship experience
Familiarity with debits and credits
Experience working with financial or administrative data
