    We are looking for a driven, highly motivated Manager to lead all aspects of a group of royalty professionals in our Data Operations team. The Manager will serve as the business owner or SME for royalty systems and as the single point of accountability for the correctness, completeness, and timeliness of the royalty data for Cengage. You will lead a group that collaborates across functions to set up and maintain payment deals in Cengage’s royalties and other systems. The role includes handling sales data inputs, answering author questions, and resolving data issues across a variety of systems and accounts. This individual will also have the responsibility to validate and approve payments, handle audits and conduct financial data analysis to foster the mission of the team.

    Essential Responsibilities/Duties:

    • Manage a group responsible for accurate, complete, and timely royalties data in Cengage's systems.
    • Review and approve new deals and modifications in the royalty environment and associated platforms.
    • Prioritize and distribute across team incoming requests to update data.
    • Define, document, and communicate the workflows involved in deal establishment and continued support.
    • Participate in testing the royalty system for upgrades, improvements, and modifications.
    • Lead a team of data professionals: mentor, train, and develop staff; provide input, growth opportunities, feedback, coaching, and training
    • Collaborate with partners including the financial planning and analysis team to ensure their needs are incorporated into data setup and maintenance processes and help with data visualization to ensure that a deep understanding of the royalties data can be accessed by all parties.
    • Maintain a deep understanding of Cengage Learning’s products, processes, systems/tools, and personnel.
    • Establish and own data quality metrics, controls, dashboards, and remediation processes.
    • Ensure compliance with internal and external controls, audit requirements, and financial governance related to royalties including partnering with accounting and audit teams.
       

    Required Skills/Knowledge/Experience:

    • BA/BS degree or 5+ years royalty related experience
    • Minimum 3 years management experience or the equivalent demonstrated experience leading, mentoring, coaching, and training staff
    • Collaborative problem solving and working style to motivate change through influence
    • Tried commitment to provide excellent customer service; proven willingness to take ownership of issues and see them through to resolution
    • Proven experience initiating, leading, and overseeing operational improvement initiatives
    • Proactive problem solving and critical thinking skills with a focus on getting it right
    • Able to self-manage progress against milestones and deliverables with a high degree of accountability and personal urgency
    • Outstanding organizational skills and a very strong attention to detail
    • Advanced with Microsoft Office Suite of systems, particularly MS Excel

    Preferred Skills/Knowledge/Experience:

    • Experience in reading and understanding contracts preferably using AI
    • Proficiency with royalty software, ERP systems and reporting software (Power BI, Snowflake)
    • Experience with successfully navigating and leading change in complex organizations.

    The full base pay range has been provided for this position. Individual base pay will vary based on work schedule, qualifications, experience, internal equity, and geographic location.  Sales roles often incorporate a significant incentive compensation program beyond this base pay range.

    In this position,  you will be eligible to participate in the company’s discretionary incentive bonus program.  This position's bonus target amount, which is not guaranteed and is dependent on individual performance and overall company results among other factors, is provided below.
