    Job Summary

    The Payroll and Accounting Tax Analyst is responsible for analyzing and managing payroll and financial management systems to ensure accurate payroll and 1099 processing and tax compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations. The Payroll and Accounting Tax Analyst is responsible for maintaining payroll integrity, resolving tax discrepancies, and supporting audits and reporting requirements and identifying process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and achieve business objectives through forecasting, risk management, and assets management.

    • Licensure or other certifications: CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or FPC (Fundamental Payroll Certification)

    • Educational Requirements: Bachelors Degree

    • Minimum Experience: 3-5 Years of Payroll Tax Experience

    Job Specific and Unique Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Multi-State Payroll Tax Experience

    • Advanced Excel & Data Analysis

    • FLSA, IRS, and State Regulation Expertise

    • Familiarity with tax reporting tools and automated payroll/accounting systems.

    • Workday and/or ADP Experience

    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across multifunctional teams. 

    Essential Tasks and Responsibilities

    • Lead end‑to‑end payroll tax operations, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations across multiple jurisdictions.

    • Prepare, file, and monitor payroll tax returns, while managing responses to agency inquiries, notices, and audits.

    • Serve as the primary liaison with federal, state, and local tax authorities, maintaining strong relationships and timely resolution of compliance issues.  

    • Support internal and external audits by compiling documentation, reconciling variances, and implementing action plans. Develop and maintain payroll tax policies, procedures, and controls to strengthen compliance and mitigate risk. 

    • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes affecting payroll taxation, advising leadership on impacts and recommending proactive strategies.

    • Train and mentor payroll staff on tax compliance, system functionality, and best practices to build organizational expertise.

    • Partner with cross functional teams to streamline processes, enhance reporting capabilities, and improve payroll tax accuracy.

    • Generate detailed payroll tax reports and analytics to support financial planning, audits, and executive decision making.

    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging technology and automation to reduce manual work and increase efficiency.

    • Collect, validate, and reconcile vendor tax information (W‑9s, TINs, payment data) to ensure proper classification and reporting.

    • Prepare and electronically file 1099 returns with the IRS and applicable state agencies through approved filing systems. Research and resolve IRS B‑Notices, penalty notices, and vendor inquiries related to year‑end reporting.

    • Process Payroll and Tax analytical reports for all requests from our counterparts, after payroll processing, and all quarterly and year end tax reconciliations.
