About the Role
Snorkel AI is seeking a detail-oriented Payments Operations Associate to support the compensation lifecycle for a broad and growing network of Expert Contributors who power our LLM data development efforts. You'll be the front line for expert support - investigating and resolving contributor payment issues and discrepancies with clarity, professionalism, and technical rigor.
You'll sit at the intersection of data operations, finance, product, and program teams, working within complex pay structures that include quality-based incentives. This is a great opportunity for a detail-driven, technically capable operator with a customer-support mindset to join a fast-moving team at the forefront of AI data development.
Main Responsibilities
- Own the day-to-day queue of payment support tickets, serving as the primary point of contact for expert-facing communications on pay issues, discrepancies, and disputes.
- Investigate ticket issues by auditing contributor data and complex payment systems with dynamic bonus structures; flagging errors or inconsistencies
- Resolve contributor’s pay disputes with clear, professional communication, escalating complex or sensitive issues as needed.
- Build and maintain SQL queries, scripts, automations and payment audit dashboards to speed up ticket investigation and reduce manual, repetitive work.
- Collaborate with Delivery, Operations, Finance and Engineering to troubleshoot discrepancies and streamline payment workflows for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Help maintain payment compliance and data traceability for operations, audit and accounting purposes.
Minimum Qualifications
- 2-3 years of experience in a customer support, payments, payroll, or finance operations role, ideally with some exposure to variable/incentive-based compensation in a marketplace environment.
- Exposure to 1099 gig contractor compliance or payment strategy design (incentive programs, quality scoring, performance-based rewards), familiarity with compensation cycles, payment schedules, or contractor/contributor invoicing
- Demonstrated customer support experience by owning end-user or customer-facing communications, including sensitive or disputed payment conversations.
- Technically proficient in SQL (querying, extracting, validating data), Google Sheets (advanced formulas, complex spreadsheets), scripting/automation (e.g., Google Apps Script or similar), and building reports or visualizations,
- Experience with workflow automation tools such as Airtable or Zapier etc and reporting/dashboard tools such as Looker, Tableau, or Omni.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to manage a high volume ticket queue independently and prioritize concurrent requests with high attention to detail
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with comfort working cross-functionally across technical and non-technical teams.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of Generative AI data workflows, such as data annotation/labeling, LLM prompt design, fine-tuning, and evaluation.
- Experience working in or adjacent to data operations, expert networks, or human-in-the-loop systems.
Pay Transparency Notice: Depending on your work location, the target hourly rate is $35-$40 for this position can range as detailed below. Snorkel also includes benefits (including medical, dental, vision and 401(k)).
Actual compensation will be determined based on factors including skills, qualifications, experience, and geographic location.
