    The Boeing Company is currently seeking Senior Software Engineer (Virtual) to support our Agile Mission Suite team located in Berkeley, Missouri. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Software Engineering organization.

    The Senior Software Engineer for Agile Mission Suite (AMS) serves as a technical expert and project leader, overseeing the design, development, integration, and sustainment of AMS Government Reference Architecture (GRA) and associated software products. This role is responsible for delivering innovative, high-quality, and secure solutions in alignment with program objectives, customer requirements, and Boeing’s technical standards. The position requires advanced technical acumen, leadership in cross-functional teams, and the ability to influence the direction of mission-critical software architectures.

    This position has been identified as a virtual opportunity and will not require the selected candidate to relocate.

    Key Responsibilities

    Technical Leadership & Architecture

    • Oversee the full software lifecycle for AMS products, ensuring compliance with industry, customer, safety, and regulatory standards.
    • Lead requirements analysis, architecture definition, and design reviews for AMS software solutions.
    • Direct the development, integration, testing, and maintenance of AMS software and supporting documentation.
    • Guide the adoption of emerging technologies, tools, and frameworks to enhance AMS capabilities.
    • Ensure effective issue resolution, optimization, and continuous improvement of AMS software products and processes.

    Adopting Platform Facilitation

    • Facilitate interactions with adopting platforms, including implementation reviews, identifying and resolving adoption challenges, and supporting issue resolution.
    • Represent the needs and requirements of adopting platforms to the AMS consortium, ensuring their feedback and concerns are addressed in architecture and product development.
    • Serve as a liaison between adopting platform teams and AMS development teams to promote successful integration and deployment.

    Problem Solving & Innovation

    • Provide technical solutions to complex, multi-domain problems requiring ingenuity and creativity.
    • Initiate and lead studies, experiments, and simulation-based testing to mature AMS capabilities and address capability gaps.
    • Champion the adoption of modern DevSecOps, Agile, and MBSE practices to accelerate development and integration cycles.

    Discretion & Impact

    • Exercise considerable latitude in determining technical objectives and approaches for AMS assignments.
    • Make decisions and recommendations that directly impact the success of major programs and organizational objectives.
    • Ensure all AMS products are delivered with unlimited data rights, are non-proprietary, and are documented for third-party integration.

    Collaboration & Liaison

    • Lead and mentor multidisciplinary teams, including internal Boeing staff, consortium partners, and external stakeholders.
    • Coordinate work across collaborative workstreams to ensure high-level task prioritization, milestone achievement, and roadmap alignment.
    • Represent Boeing and AMS in technical reviews, architecture boards, and end-of-phase presentations to customers and industry partners.

    Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

    • Bachelor’s Degree
    • 14 years of experience in software and system architecture design
    • 14 years of experience in leading software and systems development and design activities
    • 14 years of experience in developing solutions for use in open architecture environments

    Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

    • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science and 14+ years of related work experience OR Bachelor’s Degree and 18+ years of directly related work experience OR 22+ years of related, relevant experience
    • Knowledge of how to derive and allocate requirements (e.g., system, sub-system, software) and show traceability throughout the product lifecycle.
    • Knowledge of software architecture and design methodologies. Ability to synthesize software architectures and designs that meet requirements, characteristics and constraints.
    • Knowledge of software development processes in compliance with established internal and industry standards, guidelines, and best practices in the development, testing, and deployment of software.
    • Knowledge of general and software development and testing tools, capability and usage. Examples include compilers, linkers, debuggers, data analysis tools, graphical user interface builders, post processing tools, requirements management tools, and web authoring tools.
    • Knowledge of domains, characteristics, constraints and products that require software and influence architecture, requirements, interfaces, designs, and integration/test approaches. Domain examples include data processing, ground support, tools and analysis models. Examples of characteristics and constraints that impact software include operating systems, fidelity and information processing capacity. Examples of products include aircraft, missiles, airborne/shipboard/space systems/ground-based support systems.
    • Knowledge of implementation, validation, and verification processes, practices, and guidelines to ensure software development quality, performance, and safety.

    Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

    Summary pay range for Senior Level: $184,450 - $286,350
