    What You Will Be Doing

    The Technical Director, Distinguished Engineer, is a critical leadership role with HV’s Core Storage BU, responsible for driving innovation and scalability across the company’s core storage ecosystem. In this role, you will report directly to the GM, spearhead the key initiatives and strategy, and work with the head of engineering and the team responsible for designing, implementing, and managing secure, scalable infrastructure solutions in mission-critical environments. This role combines deep technical expertise with leadership, strategic oversight, and a focus on infrastructure aspects.

    In partnership with your fellow team members, your primary responsibilities will include:

    • Engage in strategy and execution, and work closely with BU leadership on various aspects of development and execution to deliver secure, efficient, and innovative infrastructure solutions.
    • Work closely with the field leadership on key customer needs, engagements, and support activities that can grow the business.
    • Pioneering storage engineering initiatives to design, build, and maintain scalable and resilient infrastructure platforms that support HV’s operational and strategic objectives.
    • Collaborating closely with Security & Compliance teams to implement and enforce policies and configurations that meet HV security standards.
    • Partnering with Product Management to develop and enhance the core platform capabilities, enabling efficient deployment and testing processes.
    • Overseeing the maintenance, monitoring, and optimization of resources, focusing on performance, cost management, and security.
    • Acting as a subject matter expert in Hardware and software technologies, guiding the engineering team and partnering with IT, security, support, and business teams to deliver projects that align with strategic goals.
    • Establishing metrics and reporting mechanisms for health, performance, and costs, making recommendations for enhancements to senior leadership.
    • Fostering an environment of continuous improvement, staying ahead of industry trends, and evolving customer needs to recommend and implement changes in the core platform.

    We will look for

    • Strategic leadership and visionary thinking in Systems and Software within the context of Enterprise Storage Technologies.
    • Building and nurturing cross-functional teams that embody agility and DevSecOps culture, promoting collaboration, innovation, and agility.
    • Demonstrating strong technical expertise in storage technologies, with a comprehensive understanding of data center architecture, security, and operations.
    • Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills, capable of managing complex projects and leading teams under tight deadlines.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
    • Working independently as well as collaboratively in a virtual, geographically dispersed team environment.

    What You'll Bring to the Team

    • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, with an in-depth understanding of Systems and Software engineering.
    • 10+ years of experience in IT infrastructure and cloud services, including significant leadership experience in storage or networking engineering roles.
    • Proven track record in implementing cloud strategies, with hands-on experience in filesystems and/or data center infrastructures.
    • Deep understanding of Storage or systems infrastructure tooling, such as networking, virtual machines, key management, and more.
    • Experience in leading and mentoring engineering teams, with a focus on developing skills and capabilities in mission critical infrastructure.

    As required by the equal pay and transparency acts, the expected base salary for this position is:

    Tier 1 (Bay Area and New York City): $250K to $300K. Expected on-target earnings: $312K to $375K

    Tier 2: $200K to $250K. Expected on-target earnings: $250K to $312K

    Tier 3: $150K to $200K. Expected on-target earnings: $187K to $250K

    The expected pay is determined based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, depth of experience in the practice area. Employees are eligible to participate in Hitachi Vantara’s bonus/variable/commission pay programs, where applicable, and are subject to the program’s conditions and restrictions.
