    Role Summary

We are seeking a visionary Enterprise Data Governance Consultant who is a recognized thought leader in enterprise data management. This is a senior strategic role for an individual who has shaped data governance cultures, built governance frameworks from the ground up, and influenced C-suite decisions across complex, regulated, and multi-industry environments. The ideal candidate brings a rare combination of deep technical knowledge, regulatory expertise, and executive-level communication skills.

    Key Responsibilities

    Strategic Leadership & Thought Leadership

    • Define and evangelize the enterprise data governance vision, strategy, and roadmap aligned with business objectives and regulatory requirements.

    • Serve as the internal and external thought leader on data governance, data quality, metadata management, and data privacy — contributing to whitepapers, industry forums, and executive briefings.

    • Establish and chair Data Governance Councils and executive decision forums, driving accountability and data ownership across the organization.

    • Influence and align business, legal, compliance, security, analytics, and technology stakeholders to build a culture of trusted, secure, and fit-for-purpose data.

    Governance Framework & Operating Model

    • Design and implement enterprise data governance operating models, including governance workflows, data ownership structures, stewardship programs, and escalation paths.

    • Develop and enforce data classification, metadata standards, business glossaries, and data catalog frameworks across enterprise data assets.

    • Build and manage risk registers, control evidence, KPI reporting, and issue remediation processes to ensure ongoing governance health.

    • Lead data lifecycle, retention, and records management policies across data warehouses, data lakes, and cloud environments.

    Privacy, Compliance & Regulatory Governance

    • Lead enterprise data privacy programs ensuring compliance with GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, HIPAA, GLBA, SOX, PCI-DSS, and other applicable regulations.

    • Conduct and govern Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs), and Transfer Impact Assessments (TIAs).

    • Implement Privacy by Design principles across data platforms, applications, and analytics initiatives.

    • Partner with legal and compliance teams to manage third-party data processing, cross-border data transfers, and regulatory audit readiness.

    Data Quality & Metadata Management

    • Define and operationalize data quality rules, KPIs, and issue management frameworks to improve data reliability and fitness for use.

    • Oversee data lineage, data discovery, and data classification initiatives using tools such as OneTrust, Collibra, Alation, or equivalent platforms.

    • Drive Master Data Management (MDM) and Reference Data governance across enterprise systems.

    AI & Cloud Governance

    • Establish AI Governance and Responsible AI frameworks to ensure ethical, transparent, and compliant use of AI/ML and GenAI technologies.

    • Govern data assets across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud environments, ensuring cloud-native governance controls are embedded.

    • Lead governance for data integration, migration, and transformation programs across complex multi-system landscapes.

    Executive Engagement & Team Leadership

    • Create and present executive dashboards and governance reporting covering data risks, issue aging, remediation status, control readiness, and program health.

    • Lead, mentor, and coach cross-functional, multi-geography teams (50–200+ members) spanning business, technology, vendor, and compliance workstreams.

    • Drive post-merger or large-scale data and analytics integration governance across enterprise application portfolios.

    Required Skills & Qualifications

    Experience

    • 15+ years of progressive experience in enterprise data governance, data management, and data privacy across multiple industries (Retail, Telecom, Healthcare, Manufacturing, or regulated sectors preferred).

    • Proven track record of building governance programs from scratch and scaling them across global organizations.

    • Experience leading large global teams (50–100+ members) in matrixed, cross-functional environments.

    • Demonstrated success in post-merger data integration governance across 50+ enterprise systems.

    Technical Expertise

    • Deep knowledge of Data Governance frameworks (DAMA-DMBOK, DCAM, or equivalent).

    • Proficiency with data governance and privacy platforms: OneTrust, Collibra, Alation, ServiceNow, or equivalent.

    • Hands-on experience with Data Warehouses, Data Lakes, and Cloud Platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).

    • Working knowledge of SQL and data architecture concepts.

    • Familiarity with ERP, CRM, PLM, and enterprise application ecosystems.

    Regulatory & Compliance Knowledge

    • Expert-level understanding of GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, HIPAA, GLBA, SOX, PCI-DSS, and emerging global privacy regulations.

    • Experience conducting 150+ privacy assessments, DPIAs, PIAs, and TIAs.

    • Strong background in GRC (Governance, Risk & Compliance) frameworks and audit readiness.

    Leadership & Communication

    • Exceptional ability to influence without authority across C-suite, legal, compliance, engineering, and business stakeholders.

    • Strong executive communication skills — capable of translating complex governance concepts into business value.

    • Experience building and presenting governance scorecards, risk dashboards, and executive decision forums.

    What Makes You Stand Out

    • You have shaped industry practices, not just followed them — contributing to governance frameworks adopted across organizations.

    • You have reduced measurable risk: e.g., ~25% lower privacy risk, ~30% lower non-compliance exposure through disciplined governance.

    • You have governed transformation at scale: mergers, cloud migrations, platform modernizations involving 70+ systems.

    • You are a trusted advisor to C-suite leaders, legal teams, and regulators — not just a practitioner.

    • You actively contribute to the data governance community through advisory roles, mentorship, or pro-bono technology leadership.
