    Global Medical Director, Chronic Weight Management

    What you will do

In this vital role, you will support the development and delivery of the Global medical affairs strategy in Chronic Weight Management (including evidence generation, medical communication, and external engagement). You will provide scientific and strategic support to the Global Medical Asset Lead (GMAL) across Chronic Weight Management, and product lifecycle management, spanning pre-launch, launch, and post-launch activities and. This role is ideal for an MD/DO, PhD, or PharmD professional with strong scientific communication skills who wants to help shape the medical narrative for a high-visibility, high-growth therapeutic area.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Partner with the Global Medical Asset Lead (GMAL) to develop and execute global medical affairs strategy for Chronic Weight Management assets across pre-launch, launch, and post-launch phases of the product lifecycle.

    • Drive medical input into product lifecycle management, including launch readiness, data generation, evidence dissemination, and long-term asset strategy.

    • Identify scientific evidence gaps and contribute to the development and execution of global evidence generation plans, including real-world evidence (RWE), investigator-sponsored research, and publication strategies.

    • Lead the interpretation, communication, and application of clinical and scientific data to inform medical, regulatory, and cross-functional decision-making.

    • Represent Medical Affairs on key cross-functional teams, including Clinical Development, Regulatory, HEOR/RWE, Commercial, Market Access, and Scientific Communications.

    • Generate actionable medical insights from healthcare professionals, external experts, and scientific exchange activities and translate them into strategic recommendations.

    • Develop and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders, including thought leaders, investigators, professional societies, advocacy groups, and payer stakeholders.

    • Contribute to global publication planning and scientific communications, including congress strategy, abstracts, manuscripts, scientific platforms, and medical education initiatives.

    • Support clinical development programs through study design input, protocol review, data interpretation, and communication of study results.

    • Provide medical leadership for advisory boards, expert panels, investigator meetings, and other scientific engagement activities.

    • Collaborate with Global Regulatory Affairs and Safety to support product benefit-risk assessments, labeling activities, and risk management initiatives.

    • Review and provide medical oversight for promotional and non-promotional materials through appropriate governance processes.

    • Serve as a subject matter expert in obesity and related cardiometabolic diseases, maintaining deep knowledge of the scientific, clinical, and competitive landscape.

    • Lead matrix teams and influence cross-functional stakeholders to achieve strategic objectives in a complex global environment.

    • Ensure all medical affairs activities are conducted in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, company policies, and industry standards.

    Basic Qualifications:

    Doctorate degree and 4 years of medical affairs experience

    OR

    Master’s degree and 8 years of medical affairs experience

    OR

    Bachelor’s degree and 10 years medical affairs experience

    In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have at least 4 years of leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation or resources.  Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • MD/DO, PharmD, or PhD with significant pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience in Medical Affairs.

    • Deep expertise in obesity, chronic weight management, and/or cardiometabolic diseases.

    • Experience supporting global medical affairs strategies across multiple stages of the product lifecycle, including development, launch, and post-launch commercialization.

    • Demonstrated success contributing to product launches, launch readiness initiatives, or other high-impact global product programs.

    • Experience developing and executing evidence generation strategies, including real-world evidence (RWE), observational research, and investigator-sponsored studies.

    • Strong understanding of obesity treatment paradigms, including incretin-based therapies (GLP-1, GIP, and multi-agonist therapies), and the evolving competitive landscape.

    • Experience leading global, cross-functional initiatives in partnership with Clinical Development, Regulatory, Commercial, Market Access, HEOR, and Scientific Communications teams.

    • Proven ability to assess emerging scientific opportunities, evidence gaps, and external innovations to inform medical and business strategy.

    • Experience engaging with global key opinion leaders, investigators, professional societies, advocacy organizations, and payer stakeholders.

    • Strong publication and scientific communication experience, including congress presentations, abstracts, manuscripts, and medical education activities.

    • Demonstrated ability to influence without authority and lead through complex matrix organizations.

    • Knowledge of pharmaceutical product development, lifecycle management, and commercialization processes.

    • Familiarity with global regulatory requirements, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and industry compliance standards.

    • Strong strategic thinking, business acumen, and problem-solving capabilities.

    • Proven track record of delivering results in a fast-paced global environment.

    The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
